Dimensions are in inches unless otherwise noted.
For longer runs of cable in excess of 25 feet, it may be a better choice for the installer of cable rail and balustrade systems to choose extra long hand swage studs. The extra thread length makes tensioning easier knowing that there is plenty of thread to work with. As with regular hand swage studs, a washer and nut are fitted onto the back side of the wood post. The nut is then tightened against the washer until all of the slack in the cable is taken out and the cable is properly tensioned. The cable is secured to the fitting by crimping three times with a Tyler Tool 20 inch hand swage tool. Made of marine grade type 316 stainless steel, extra long hand swage studs are available to fit 1/8 and 3/16 inch cable.
Please see our Stainless Steel Cable Railing Hand Swage Tool Instructions for proper swaging procedures.
