Q: How easy is it to spread the thimble open to slip into a 3/8 inch eye bolt or turnbuckle? If difficult, do you have open thimbles?
A: These are closed thimbles so you will not be able to put fittings on them without opening them. The heavy duty thimbles are not difficult to open with the right technique and equipment, otherwise they are. In our experience, the easiest method to open the thimbles is to place half of the thimble in a vice and slip a pipe over the other end of the thimble and bending it outward. Repeat the process to bend it back. I found this YouTube video illustrating the process. http://youtu.be/ww1oJPpc5sU?t=18s Answer provided by: E-Rigging Team (11/4/2013)
