HAAS Cable Railing Debuts at Aiken Steeplechase

Since 1930, the Aiken Steeplechase Association has brought thrills and excitement to the people of Aiken, South Carolina with its biannual Steeplechase races. Thoroughbreds chase victory to the finish line as fans roar with delight.

Race day brings thousands of visitors from every direction to participate in the spectacle, which means the facility can endure a stampede several times per year. It was in the interest of growth and promotion that the Aiken Steeplechase made the executive decision to build its first permanent structure- a 3-story finish line tower on the racetrack.

WJBF News Channel 6 reported on the groundbreaking ceremony and interviewed Frank Mullins, President of the Aiken Steeplechase Association, who said “This [the tower] shows that we’re here and this place is gonna grow and get bigger.”

Allowing visitors a panoramic view of the racetrack is the HAAS Axis Cable Railing encompassing the 2nd floor viewing space for owners and invited guests. The 3rd floor of the tower features a balcony with unrivaled views-ideal for timing horses and videography. The cable is Grand Strand 3/16” X 500’, 1x19 Type 316 Stainless Steel and is installed on the safety rail on both floors, continuing the seamless look from the floor below.

The HAAS Axis cable system’s sleek look and overall versatility made it the right choice for an open-air viewing platform on the tower. Aiken, SC is in the upstate portion of the Palmetto State, and is no stranger to some harsh weather, making the durability of stainless steel a necessity for this project.

A donor to the project and for whom the tower is named, James “JR” Stainbrook says “It exceeds my expectations the way this thing turned out. It’s absolutely stunning. I think it will be here for many years to come, and I think it’s going to be a nice little landmark for the city of Aiken.”

Aiken Steeplechase is champing at the bit to continue their project ideas for the property, and E-Rigging is ready to support their efforts all the way to the finish line.
