Q: How does this sling differ from a nylon one that costs much more?
A: Nylon was the standard for a long time because of the price and availability of webbing. Now that many manufacturers are making polyester webbing, and the cost of polyester is lower, they are making slings with them. They are of equal strength to Nylon and have similar characteristics. I’ll list the differences below:
• Nylon Slings cannot be used in environments with: Acids or Bleaching Agents
• Polyester Slings cannot be used in environments with: Aldehydes or Ethers (Although it will be negatively affected by concentrated sulfuric acid and strong alkalis at high temperatures)
• Nylon Stretches about 10% at the rated capacity, Polyester Stretches about 3%
